The Brief & Engagement

Emerging from pandemic volatility, Taren Point Bowling Club required a strategic reset — not just marketing activity.

COG Marketing was engaged to:

  • Realign the brand for a post-pandemic operating environment
  • Audit and rebuild fragmented digital assets
  • Establish a clear art direction and marketing communications strategy
  • Introduce structure, process, and planning while protecting business-as-usual operations

At project commencement, brand intelligence was minimal, marketing systems were largely analogue, and there was limited documentation guiding decision-making. A critical requirement was to support the General Manager’s vision, align with Clubs NSW regulatory frameworks, and deliver solutions that were realistic given internal resources.

The Client

Located in the heart of the Sutherland Shire, Taren Point Bowling Club is a long-standing community venue and recipient of Bowls NSW Club of the Year.

With immaculately maintained greens, strong club culture, and a relaxed hospitality offering, the club has welcomed members and guests since 1950. Taren Point Bowling Club has always been defined by accessibility, community, and local pride – values that remained intact even as the operating environment shifted dramatically during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Challenge

The challenge was not visibility – it was clarity and structure

Taren Point Bowling Club needed:

  • A shared understanding of who the brand was speaking to (internally and externally)
  • Clear communication objectives tied to business performance
  • A framework for marketing decision-making that could operate without agency dependency
  • Digital and booking systems that supported customer experience without disrupting daily operations

All solutions had to be introduced incrementally, ensuring the club could continue operating seamlessly while evolving strategically.

The Solution

COG Marketing delivered a business-first brand and marketing framework, designed to stabilise, align, and enable growth.

Research & Insight

We commenced with a series of stakeholder workshops, combining internal knowledge with external research to uncover operational truths, audience behaviour, and growth opportunities.

These insights formed the foundation for all subsequent strategic decisions, ensuring solutions were commercially viable and aligned with real-world conditions.

Strategy & Framework Development

We established:

  • Brand positioning and communication pillars
  • A clear marketing communications strategy
  • Digital strategy aligned to customer behaviour and operational capacity
  • Decision-making frameworks that allowed internal teams to act autonomously

Our approach prioritised intelligence transfer, ensuring the club could confidently manage and evolve the strategy without constant agency intervention.

Art Direction & Execution

With strategy in place, COG Marketing delivered art direction and design that modernised the brand while respecting its heritage and community role.

Digital marketing workflows, booking engine integration, and campaign planning were rolled out progressively, embedding the strategy into daily operations.

The Results

Taren Point Bowling Club now operates with a clear, structured marketing and brand strategy shared across senior management and marketing teams.

Key outcomes include:

  • Defined communication objectives and audience segmentation
  • A consistent and strategic approach to marketing deployment
  • Brand management frameworks clarifying who, why, how, and when the club communicates
  • A documented rationale for media selection, campaign timing, and budget allocation
  • A centralised dashboard of brand, business, and digital insights

The business development project created the foundation for ongoing digital marketing workflows, booking technology upgrades, and future growth initiatives – positioning Taren Point Bowling Club to perform confidently in a post-pandemic environment while remaining true to its community roots.
