The Brief & Engagement

Northern Cemeteries (Metropolitan Memorial Parks) approached COG Marketing seeking a detailed understanding of their brand health ahead of potential mergers, acquisitions, rebranding, and corporate restructuring.

The brief called for a Brand Audit that would measure the organisation’s performance against key business objectives, evaluate its industry presence, and provide actionable insights to guide future branding, digital strategy, and communication initiatives.

COG Marketing’s goal was to deliver clarity on how the brand was perceived across internal and external stakeholders, identify areas of fragmentation, and provide a roadmap to strengthen brand equity and community trust in this not-for-profit memorialisation organisation.

The Client

Metropolitan Memorial Parks is a not-for-profit organisation managing five distinctive cemetery sites: four on Sydney’s North Shore and Sandgate Cemetery in Newcastle. Each site serves diverse communities, reflecting a range of cultural, traditional, and religious practices.

The organisation is committed to excellence in customer experience-from family consultants and chapel staff to horticultural and cremation teams. Their mission is to ensure every community member has access to respectful, dignified, and thoughtful memorial services.

Our Approach

COG Marketing undertook a deep, research-driven Brand Audit that combined internal stakeholder interviews, customer experience mapping, competitor benchmarking, and market trend analysis. Key elements of our approach included:

  • Brand Research & Insight Development: Identifying how the brand is perceived across multiple touchpoints, including digital platforms, physical sites, and marketing materials.
  • Segmentation & Analysis: Understanding demographics, customer needs, and community expectations to inform strategic brand positioning.
  • Brand Health Assessment: Evaluating the effectiveness, consistency, and impact of existing brand assets, corporate identity, and communications.
  • Actionable Recommendations: Providing a clear, practical roadmap to guide brand realignment, digital strategy, and customer experience improvements.
  • Our focus was on simplifying communications, creating customer-centric processes, and ensuring consistency in how the brand is represented across all locations and channels.

  • Simplicity: Reduce confusion by streamlining messaging, processes, and touchpoints.
  • Relationship Building: Foster long-term trust and loyalty with families and communities through consistent, respectful engagement.
